Glasco Carries Legacy of Late Daughter Geri Ann into World Series

On the night of the NCAA DI Softball Championship selection, Tara Archibald leaned over to her father, Gerry Glasco, and said if Texas Tech softball were given the No. 12 seed — the jersey number of Glasco's late daughter Geri Ann — the Red Raiders would make the Women's College World Series. The father-daughter coaching pair watched as the No. 12 popped onto the TV screen inside the south end zone building of Jones AT&T Stadium on May 11, and the gentle reminder of Geri Ann popped into their heads.

"She's been with us on this journey," Gerry Glasco said with watery eyes following his team's 3-2 victory over Oklahoma to advance to the World Series championship.

Texas Tech Bans Tortilla-Throwing Tradition at Football Games, AD Kirby Hocutt Says

Tortilla throwing is no longer encouraged or permitted at Jones AT&T Stadium, not even on the opening kickoff, Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt said. Fans who choose to throw a tortilla or any other object during a football game will have their ticket privileges suspended for the remainder of the academic year.

The announcement came after Kansas head coach Lance Leipold claimed one of his staff members had a pocket knife thrown at them during the Jayhawks' 41-17 loss to No. 9 Texas Tech.

Texas Tech QB3 Mitch Griffis Returns After Thinking He'd 'Never Put on the Pads Again'

Brett Griffis sat on the couch in his home in New Britain, Conn., eagerly awaiting a call from his brother 1,900 miles away Saturday evening. He had spent countless games backing his brother up at Broad Run High School and watching film together, but Saturday, he was watching his brother relight a dying spark.

Mitch Griffis played his first meaningful snaps of football since 2023 for Texas Tech in a 42-0 rout of Oklahoma State. "I was just waiting for my phone to buzz, so I could see the joy on his face," Brett said.

Background / About Ty

Kaplan came to journalism not through a beat, but through curiosity. After testing paths in meteorology, physics, and sports medicine, he found that journalism was the only pursuit where the questions never ran out.

As Sports Editor and softball beat reporter for The Daily Toreador, he chronicled Texas Tech softball's historic 2025 season from the program's first Big 12 title through its run to the Women's College World Series championship series. He also served as a season-long contributor to The Dallas Morning News, covering the Texas Tech football beat through the Big 12 Championship and the program's first-ever College Football Playoff appearance at the Orange Bowl.

Kaplan is interested in telling the truth about people — in sports, in politics, or wherever the story leads.
